English language classes and a variety of training courses, including computer skills, catering and child care. Creche and playgroup facilities. Girls homework group Thursday 5pm - 6pm. Boys homework group Tuesday 5pm - 6pm. Youth group Saturday 10am - 2pm. Charges are made for some services, including training.

Sure Start Howdon offers these services: Support and services for pre-school children and parents. Daycare nursery for children aged 6 weeks to 4 years old, Monday - Friday 7.30am - 6pm (all year). Playgroup for 2½-4 year olds Monday - Friday. Parent and toddler groups. Training courses with creche facilities. Access to midwife, health visitor, speech therapist and educational psychologist. Multi-sensory room.

People's Kitchen
People's Kitchen offers these services: Provide shelter, free food and companionship for homeless people. Based at the Alison Centre Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 6.30pm - 9pm. Provide food at Dean Street Monday evenings, Eldon Square Sundays 9am-10am, Elswick Cemetery Sundays 10am-11am. Drop-in at Alison Centre Thursday 1pm-4.30pm. Also provide clothing.

Samaritans of Tyneside
Samaritans of Tyneside offers these services: Telephone helpline operating 24 hours a day offering emotional support for anyone in crisis. Offers a listening and befriending service to people who are isolated, feel in despair or who are suicidal. Office open for drop-in visits 9am - 9pm. The national local rate Samaritans number (08457 90 90 90) can also put callers through without delay to their nearest unengaged branch.
