Carer’s Allowance & the Carer Premium
Carer’s allowance (CA) is the main state benefit for carers. Before April 2003 it was called invalid care allowance.

Community Care Grant
The Community Care Grant does not have to be repaid. Such a grant can be claimed if you are getting income support or likely to get it within six weeks. This could be where you are expected to leave a hospital, nursing home or prison, etc, and then claim income support.

What is Direct Payment?
A Direct Payment is money that may be given to you by your social services department to buy the support you need to care for the person you looking after.
